Burden council member resigns; Chris Cannon named council president, vacancy to be advertised

The Burden City Council on July 28, 2025 accepted the resignation of Council Member and President Sherrie Conklin and moved to advertise the unexpired seat, with applications due Aug. 18.
Mayor Lee Wingert opened the meeting and reported Conklin's resignation. Council debated the process for filling the vacancy and approved a motion to advertise the position and accept applications through Aug. 18 (motion by Taylor Dory; second by Chris Cannon). The motion passed unanimously, 4-0.
At the same meeting Council Member Chase Hobart nominated Council Member Chris Cannon to serve as council president. Taylor Dory moved to appoint Cannon and Hobart seconded. The roll call recorded Dory and Bolack as yea, Cannon abstained, and Hobart yea; the motion carried and Cannon accepted the appointment.
The council also moved to remove Conklin from the city's bank signer card and add Cannon; that motion carried with the same roll-call pattern. The council clerk noted the vacancy advertisement and signer-card change will be handled administratively.
