The Board of Regents received an update on Pillar 3 of its strategic plan, which centers on higher education's role in advancing Kansas's economy.
Former Speaker Kent Glasscock, who co-led the Pillar 3 work, said five universities submitted reports showing direct job creation of ‘‘a little over 4,000’’ from a 2019 baseline through 2025 toward a 10,000-job goal, and direct investment of $877 million. Glasscock emphasized supporting metrics and the talent pipeline as critical to sustaining economic impact and said institutions have included stories and images to illustrate results. He urged the board to request K-State, KU and Wichita State to present pillar 3 reports in February, with regional campuses reporting in March.
Kansas State President Richard Linton suggested producing a consolidated report and storytelling package to communicate universities'economic impact. Regents and presenters agreed that highlighting selected success stories would help demonstrate tangible outcomes to lawmakers and the public.
