Wichita State University’s Title IX coordinator, Ashley Courtney McHenry, told the Kansas Board of Regents governance committee on Jan. 14 that the university is focusing on outreach, training and cross-office partnerships while continuing to operate under its 2020 Title IX policy.
McHenry described a pocket quick-reference guide for faculty, staff and students that explains Title IX scope and reporting steps, and said the university added a training-request function to its CTAC website so departments can request pre-populated or custom training sessions. "We wanted to make sure that our students, faculty, and staff have access to all these things," McHenry said.
McHenry said Wichita State remains on its 2020 Title IX regulations and has not adopted the 2024 regulatory changes. "We've not changed our Title IX policy," she said, adding that Kansas was "1 of 26 states that did not make those changes." She also described partnership work with Human Resources to coordinate overlapping EEO and Title VII matters so investigations and supports are not duplicated.
On ADA and Section 504 work, McHenry said the university recently hired a new director who previously ran a summer accessibility camp at WSU Tech; the university will cosponsor the camp this year. She also described an administrative focus on ensuring student accommodations (furniture, assistive devices) are available without delay and on monitoring web and campus accessibility.
McHenry said the CTAC office has membership in national Title IX administrator groups and in a Clery-related center that reviews the university's annual safety and security report. She closed by saying the office schedules dean "tours," meets with department chairs, and is building relationships so faculty, staff and students know how to reach the office.
