Carbondale council approves minutes, liquor-license renewal, park lights and community-garden removal

At its Sept. 16 meeting the Carbondale City Council approved corrected minutes, granted a retail liquor-license renewal contingent on payment per Ordinance 130, approved a shed and a fence permit, authorized 18 park light poles on the north side, and voted to remove community garden boxes; multiple routine motions carried and bills were reviewed.
The Carbondale City Council carried a slate of routine motions at its Sept. 16 meeting, approving minutes, licenses, permits and several operational items.
Minutes and routine approvals: The council approved meeting minutes from Aug. 19 and Sept. 3 with corrections; motions carried and Councilman Moore recorded one abstention. Council also approved budget meeting minutes from Aug. 19.
Liquor license renewal: The council approved renewal of Gorman Co. LLC’s retail sales of alcoholic liquors State License #11427 (Emily Gorman) for Oct. 2, 2024–Oct. 1, 2026, contingent on payment of the license fee in accordance with Ordinance 130.
Zoning and permits: The council approved a Wegs LLC permit to build an 8x8 shed (8x8 or smaller sheds do not require special approval) and granted Down Home Auto permission to erect a six‑foot privacy fence along the back of the building.
Park lighting and events: Councilmember Ball moved to add 18 light poles and fixtures to the north side of the city park; the motion carried and the south end may be added later. The Lions Club was permitted to use washable chalk for Fall Fest vendor markings; the city generator will not be used by the band.
Community garden and financial items: Council voted to remove the overgrown community garden boxes and allow donation of the boxes. Extension requests were approved and the council reviewed and accepted the bills presented (a correction was noted to a Stumbo Hanson bill for 2.6 hours).
Next steps: Occupancy permits for new homes in the Tucker Subdivision may be issued at the Oct. 7 meeting after a scheduled Oct. 9 closing for one home. The Nextbill Pay/Jayhawk item was discussed and tabled until the next meeting for additional information.
