VFW honors school resource Officer Watson; mayor proclaims Tyler Beets Day

The Bonner Springs City Council paused its regular agenda on Feb. 24 for two community recognitions: the Veterans of Foreign Wars presented Officer Watson with an Officer of the Year award and Mayor Tom Stevens read a proclamation honoring Tyler Beets for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
A VFW representative said Officer Watson is a positive presence in local schools as the school resource officer and described him as a role model for students. Officer Watson accepted the recognition and thanked the VFW, his family and the community: "I love this city," he said.
Mayor Tom Stevens read a proclamation noting Beets's scouting achievements, including 60 merit badges and service projects that benefit the community, and proclaimed Feb. 24, 2025 as "Tyler Beets Day" in Bonner Springs. The council applauded the honorees and then proceeded to the business portion of the meeting.
The recognitions were ceremonial; no official actions were attached to the awards or to the proclamation.
