USD 286 board unanimously approves hire of Wayne Carter as high school social science instructor and activity director

Unified School District #286’s Board of Education voted unanimously at a Jan. 22 special meeting to hire Wayne Carter as the district’s new High School Social Science Instructor and Activity Director.

President Jaime Morris called the meeting to order at 7:15 a.m. in the district office. After a short executive session to discuss terms and conditions of employment for non-elected personnel, the board reconvened and approved the appointment by a 6-0 vote. The motion to hire Carter was made by P.J. Buck and seconded by Rodney Dickens.

According to the board motion, Carter will be placed on the district’s approved certified salary schedule at Column 4, Step 20. The position’s Activity Director pay will align with the district’s approved supplemental assignment schedule for the upcoming school year. The board’s approval is contingent on a satisfactory background check.

The meeting record shows Becky Smilko moved the board into a ten-minute executive session with Superintendent Rusty Arnold to discuss personnel matters; that motion, seconded by P.J. Buck, also passed 6-0. Following the reconvening of open session at 7:27 a.m., the board took the hiring vote and then unanimously approved adjournment at 7:28 a.m.

The meeting minutes list attendees as President Jaime Morris, board members Rodney Dickens, Becky Smilko and P.J. Buck, District Board Clerk Kati Sears and Superintendent Rusty Arnold; Denise Signer and Michael Clark joined by phone and Jonathan Cude was absent. The board did not discuss or record additional conditions to the hire beyond the background-check contingency.

The next procedural step recorded in the minutes is completion of the required background check before the employment becomes effective.
