The Cheney City Council on Dec. 10 authorized the purchase of a 2025 Chevrolet 1500 for the fire department at a price of $40,499 and approved upfitting costs of up to $18,000 for lights, sirens, a topper, slide‑out tray and graphics.
Fire Chief Cody Young told the council the existing 2008 pickup has 127,000 miles and was purchased used in 2014. Chief Young estimated the current vehicle averages about 2,200 miles per year and that the old truck could sell for roughly $10,000. Councilmember Greg Williams moved to authorize the purchase from Davis Moore Chevrolet; Councilmember Ryan Graf seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous.
Council also voted to declare the 2008 Chevy pickup surplus and to list it for sale on the Purplewave auction platform. Administration noted the purchase price from Davis Moore includes a 12‑month/12,000‑mile warranty and a 100,000‑mile powertrain warranty; staff identified other used pickup options and prices for comparison during the discussion.
Staff will proceed with the purchase and upfitting as authorized and will list the 2008 vehicle for sale.
