SkillsUSA students showcase CTE outcomes to the TEA at Topeka meeting

Student officers from SkillsUSA Kansas addressed the board to describe personal experiences with career and technical education and preview state and national competitions.
State director Eric Tincher introduced SkillsUSA Kansas and the authority heard short speeches from several student officers who described how CTE and SkillsUSA shaped their career and leadership skills. Speakers included Mark Jensen (historian and student at Fort Hayes Tech Northwest), Harlan Tassy (treasurer), Carson Malat (parliamentarian), David Thompson (postsecondary vice president), and Blake Luna (postsecondary president). Students described hands‑on coursework, internships, industry certifications, and competitions; staff and board members praised the students and noted outreach opportunities at the state conference in March and nationals in Atlanta in June.
Board members asked about how students would promote SkillsUSA in their communities and noted the value of dual advising, internships and employer partnerships in supporting credential pathways. The board acknowledged SkillsUSA's role in student development and local workforce pipelines.
