USD 505 board reviews bids, tables Woodaire project, approves policies and technology updates

At its Dec. 16, 2024 meeting, the Unified School District No. 505 board considered facility bids, curriculum options, technology upgrades and several routine policy actions.
The board approved a motion to accept the bid from JR & Co as presented and later moved to table the Woodaire project until spring; minutes record that Midcontinental Restoration had submitted a bid for Woodaire in the amount of $88,910. Superintendent Craig Bagshaw noted two options for a new elementary/secondary ELA reading series: Wonders at $122,673 and Amplify at $112,000. No final purchase decision for the reading series was recorded in the minutes.
District technology staff reported that an e-rate network upgrade is underway, the old gym now has Wi-Fi, and the district spent about $600 on key cards. The board voted to maintain the district's current cell-phone and computer policy for the remainder of the school term on a 6-0 vote.
Other recorded administrative items included accepting a $268.14 donation from the Oswego Knights of Columbus and approving the purchase of 20 softball uniforms for $2,182.80. The minutes also list community events and student activities reported by building administrators, including a winter program, FBLA conference attendance, a mental-health speaker, a blood drive and upcoming testing after the break.
The board handled these items as part of the regular agenda; several facility and curriculum items will require follow-up before expenditures are finalized.
