USD 286 board approves consent agenda including personnel resignations and hires; resident asks about activity bus routes

The Unified School District #286 Board of Education approved an amended agenda and a consent agenda at its Dec. 9 regular meeting in the district office, formally accepting multiple personnel changes and routine business items.
Rodney Dickens moved to approve an amended agenda that added a resignation (Devin Cox, food service custodian) and an employment item (Rebecca Robinson, food service custodian); P.J. Buck seconded and the motion passed 6-0. Michael Clark then moved to approve the consent agenda—covering November minutes and bills, the listed resignations (Carolyn Williams, counselor and activities director; Tyler Buss, assistant principal and social science instructor; Devin Cox) and the employments (Karol Mendoza, ESOL part‑time teacher’s aide; Rebecca Robinson, food service custodian). Jonathan Cude seconded and the consent agenda passed 6-0.
During the public forum, resident Tayte Gooden asked about activity bus routes; district leaders explained adjustments were driven by changes in class schedules and Superintendent Rusty Arnold invited Gooden to follow up directly with district staff for specifics.
Principals deliverables included Karla Cherico’s report on a math summit, updates to MTSS and a new junior/senior high curriculum, and notices that 40 students opted out of finals and 12 truancy letters were sent. Elementary Principal John Gray presented a slideshow highlighting school awards, said Penny Wars raised $600 for the Angel Tree, provided AR reading updates and noted the elementary Christmas concert was rescheduled to Dec. 11.
The board acknowledged the service of departing staff members Carolyn Williams and Tyler Buss. Michael Clark moved to adjourn; Becky Smilko seconded, the motion passed 6-0, and the meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m. The next regular meeting is Jan. 13, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the district office.
