The county highway representative and commissioners discussed changes in state funding distribution, grant competitiveness, and active road and bridge work.
Chris (speaker S4), introduced by the chair earlier in the meeting, described the lane-mile direct distribution amount as approximately $459,000 and explained the State's recent changes that cap larger CCMG awards and make CCMG grants more competitive. "I think it was a little bit under, half $1,000,000. It was like $459,000," he said, adding the county could apply lane-mile funds and pursue a CCMG application to combine funding for bridge work and contractor paving.
Chris also reported that CLR started work July 6 on Bridge 176 (700 East between 400 North and 500 North) and that the road is posted closed and is expected to reopen in September after about two months of work. He reviewed operational schedules: chip-seal operations beginning in August and paving operations in September, and reminded the board that PASER ratings and ADA/Title VI compliance must be maintained to qualify for federal funding.
The board approved an LPA claim voucher for Lockmuller Group preliminary engineering on the roundabout, a claim listed at $11,835.63 and reimbursable at 90% under an HSOP grant. Commissioners moved and approved the voucher during the meeting.
No detailed construction contract beyond the Bridge 176 closure announcement was decided at the meeting; commissioners recorded routine approvals and directed staff to proceed with grant applications and planned operations.
