At its meeting, the St. Clair County Commission approved a package of routine contracts, equipment purchases and service subscriptions presented by county staff.
Items approved included a guaranteed auction arrangement with JM Wood Auction Company for six Mack dump trucks (staff said the company guaranteed a gross amount of $1,290,000 for the six trucks); an Esri training and technical assistance agreement priced at $32,762; authorization to send bids for a road department equipment shed designed by Goodgame; and county crews’ limited clearing of a parcel near Highway 11 and Dietrich Road to inspect a potential detention center site.
Staff also presented two jail-related contracts that will require a budget amendment — described in the meeting as an estimated $130,000 over the next two years — which the commission approved. The sheriff’s office requested and received approval for a 3D laser scanner. The commission approved a Cellebrite subscription for digital forensics at $36,927.24 per year through the OMNIA cooperative. Staff additionally requested approval of a Burl software license; the annual amount in the transcript was unclear and is noted in clarifying details.
Other approvals included a customer agreement and easement for Alabama Power to install primary power and 10 RV hookups at the arena for $1,468.99, a $6,000 advertising contract with River 94.1 FM (with a budget amendment noted), payment of a $266.57 invoice for HD Supply requested by public transportation director Janet Smith, and disposal of a workstation and laser jet printer requested by Revenue Commissioner Ken Crow. A memorandum of understanding with JBS for a 'stepping up' program was also considered and approved pending county attorney review where noted.
Most items were approved by voice vote; the transcript records commissioners saying "Aye" on each motion without a roll-call tally.
