Commission tables proposed subdivision regulations pending final revisions

At a regular meeting, the St. Clair County Commission voted to table proposed revisions to the county subdivision regulations pending inclusion of additional revised language and review by the county attorney. The motion to table was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.

The item was introduced by Dan (speaker 2), who said staff had made wording changes and that a few sections still needed review. He told the commission the Mayor's Association had urged passage but also requested notice procedures for municipalities. Pro Tem (speaker 3) objected to moving forward without final revisions, saying, “I think what we need to do is not put the cart before the horse.” Another commissioner (speaker 5) recommended taking the motion and tabling the vote until the board had a final draft to consider.

Commissioners discussed grandfathering for properties already permitted; Dan said staff has identified a handful of properties that would be grandfathered. The commission’s action was procedural: the motion to table the regulations to the next work session carried on a voice vote; no formal tally was recorded in the transcript.

The tabling delays any formal adoption of the subdivision regulations and preserves the current standards until commissioners review the amended draft and receive the county attorney’s final opinion.
