Bonner Springs council approves vehicle-storage building and 2025 mowing contract
Summary

Public works director Matt Beets described two procurement items the council approved.
On the vehicle storage building, Beets said the structure will be approximately 150 by 80 feet with an 18-foot wall height and include a drive-through wash bay; ClearSpan was selected through cooperative purchasing to provide and install the steel building and design footings and slab. Council members asked whether remaining funds in the project budget (about $829,000, per council questions) would cover concrete and finishing; Beets said staff expects the budget will be sufficient. The council voted to award the contract to ClearSpan for $470,880.24.
On the 2025 annual mowing contract, Beets said seven contractors bid on work that covers 34 sites, including Moen Cemetery (about 14–15 acres and roughly 3,500 headstones). The recommended contractor, Monson Lawn Care, has cemetery experience and was the low bidder. Council approved the estimated $60,255 award; members discussed mowing frequency, budget breakdowns and the contractor’s experience with complex cemetery mowing.
Both motions passed on roll-call votes with no dissent recorded.
