The Unified School District #286 Board of Education approved a set of personnel and compensation items at its Sept. 9 meeting, including several new hires, adoption of the classified staff handbook and increases to supplemental assignment pay.
On the consent agenda the board recorded hires for extracurricular and support positions: Jayson Stettler (High School Math Bowl sponsor), Sonya Redd (High School Color Guard coach), Marna Herren (elementary teacher aide), Afton Gorby (elementary teacher aide) and Wyatt Goode (junior high assistant track coach). The consent agenda containing those employment actions was approved on a motion by Jonathan Cude, seconded by Denise Signer; the motion passed 6-1 with Michael Clark abstaining.
Separately, the board approved the 2024–25 Classified Handbook and added job descriptions on a motion by Rodney Dickens, seconded by Jonathan Cude; that motion passed 7-0. The board also approved increases to supplemental assignment pay on a motion by Becky Smilko, seconded by Michael Clark; the supplemental pay motion passed 6-1 with Rodney Dickens recorded as abstaining.
