Bloomington official urges bidding for UV system after clean water reports

Gates recommended the village begin the bidding process for a UV disinfection system, saying the Department of Natural Resources will require a move away from chlorine systems. He noted an estimated cost of about $60,000 in 2023 has risen to roughly $120,000 today and argued starting bids now will demonstrate to the DNR that the village is actively pursuing an upgrade.
Gates said the recent bacterial detection in the village drinking water was caused by dirt, not fecal contamination. He said the village chlorinated the water and that samples returned to normal about one to one‑and‑a‑half weeks later. The board reviewed and accepted the reports; Gates will file them for the village.
Trustees also heard that a recent water‑tower inspection identified a late submission of lead service line reports as the sole outstanding item; those reports have since been completed, the board was told.
