Cheney council approves posting to hire congregate site manager to sustain senior meals

The Cheney City Council unanimously approved posting and hiring for a congregate site manager at a Dec. 30 special meeting after staff warned the city must employ someone by Jan. 20 to continue senior meal services.
City Administrator Danielle Young said CPAAA provided updated information about a transition from Everfull to TRIO for congregate and delivered meals for residents 60 and older. Young said TRIO will not be delivering the meals as previously indicated, but volunteers are currently in place to continue delivering homebound meals. To maintain the program, Young said the city needs to employ a site manager by Jan. 20.
Young asked the council to approve a job description that would make the new employee responsible for assisting Senior Center volunteers with programming and handling rentals. She said CPAAA hopes to have a formal agreement by Jan. 5 that will indicate a stipend to the city; Young said she anticipates a $7,000 stipend plus an additional $4,500 of funding that had been allocated toward building improvements but could be redirected to the position.
Councilmember Jeff Albers moved to approve the site manager job description and to post the position; Councilmember Greg Williams seconded. The minutes record a unanimous vote in favor (Albers, Cramer, Graf, Williams).
The council’s action authorizes posting and hiring steps; the funding amounts and formal CPAAA agreement remain to be finalized. The position must be filled by Jan. 20 for current meal delivery arrangements to continue without interruption.
