Pulaski honors first responders and dispatchers for lifesaving CPR response

Pulaski council members recognized local public safety staff for their response to a March emergency at the town bike park, saying bystander CPR and coordinated emergency care helped the patient regain spontaneous circulation and remain alive in hospital care.
Chris Akers, director of public dispatch, described how dispatchers stayed on the line to instruct and support the caller while fire and EMS crews provided hands‑on care. “They are their emotional support. They’re also their instructors,” Akers said, explaining that dispatchers are often the first point of contact and guide bystanders through life‑saving measures.
Town presenters said the incident was submitted to the American Red Cross and American Heart Association; the associations recognized the on‑scene responders and the town issued an additional certificate to acknowledge dispatchers’ contributions. The council also issued unit citations to senior firefighter Zach Camacho and firefighter Jason Whitaker for their roles in the call.
Speakers emphasized the broader goal of encouraging CPR training in the community. A town official reading remarks from the association highlighted that “we want to recognize heroes that have stepped in to save a life” and urged residents to learn CPR and share stories to boost bystander readiness.
The recognition was a ceremonial portion of the council meeting; no formal action was required. The council moved on to other agenda items after presenting certificates and taking photographs.
