Town engineer says Pulaski has secured about $153,000 in disaster funds; mitigation grant of roughly $50,000 pending

Austin Mahnner, introduced as a project engineer with the town engineering department, said the town has secured several FEMA and Virginia Department of Emergency Management awards to cover generator use, water system and filtration plant expenses, cleanup and basement repairs. He listed specific contract amounts and uses: $22,661.28 for generator and water‑system emergency operations; $59,242 for repairs tied to the storm; roughly $43,000 for basement flooding damages and employee time; and $50,585.61 for additional basement and fixture repairs. Mahnner said those awards total $152,949.05 in locked funds.
Mahnner also said one contract remains pending with FEMA for a mitigation project to reduce future basement flooding and that the town anticipates roughly an additional $50,000 if that request is approved, bringing the estimated total to about $200,000. “Altogether, we estimate, from locked‑in funds and what we anticipate still to be approved is roughly around $200,000,” he said.
Council members thanked Mahnner for the update; no immediate policy actions or appropriations were taken at the meeting. Mahnner said he was available to answer questions about the contracts and damages.
Next steps: staff will track the pending FEMA mitigation application and report back when the award is finalized.
