Alicia Lane, a member of the Narrows town council, reported that the inaugural Wolf Creek Runs Wild 5K/10K on Oct. 18 sold out with 250 registrations and produced broad economic and community benefits for Narrows.
“This event sold out at 250 participants…and after all expenses are paid for, we raised $15,000,” Lane said, describing participant turnout, volunteer support and sponsor contributions. Lane told the council 548 people were in the park that morning and nearly 20% of attendees traveled more than 30 miles, with visitors from three or more states.
Lane said sponsors covered the event’s costs so registration fees could be dedicated to local improvements. She listed sponsors including Carilion, Giles Community Hospital, Giles County, Selco Credit Union and local law and accounting firms, and credited the Narrows Junior Woman’s Club, the high school band, the local Boy Scout troop and the fire department for volunteering and safety support.
Town officials said the $15,000 will be designated for repairs to the footbridge at Mill Creek Nature Park. Lane said the event also strengthened the town’s brand—material designed by a local graduate is still selling as merchandise—and organizers are already planning next year’s race with a potential kids fun run on the calendar.
Council members praised the event as a model of community partnership that generated immediate economic activity and a specific capital project to improve town trails.
