The board accepted the minutes and later approved Rolling’s appointment by motion and voice vote.
Much of the veterans report prompted a separate, more detailed discussion about flags at the Penrose Annex. Commissioners and supervisors debated several options: installing a flagpole with the necessary illumination and maintenance, mounting a flag near an exterior light so it could remain raised, or participating in the Optimist Club program that places flags on holidays but leaves them unlit overnight. Participants raised concerns about etiquette requirements (illumination when a flag is flown overnight), the logistics of putting up and taking down a flag daily, and potential costs for electrical work versus solar-lit options. No final decision on signage or pole installation was recorded; staff were asked to bring back options and cost estimates.
The motions to accept the veterans commission minutes and to appoint Michelle Rolling were approved by voice vote during the meeting.
