The Treynor School Board on Oct. 13 heard a presentation from Career EdVantage (Avenue Scholars) about career and technical education supports for high school students. Program lead Chris Grawler outlined services that now reach 12 partner schools and include mentorship, industry tours, job shadowing, paid internships and concurrent enrollment opportunities with Iowa Western.
Students highlighted concrete outcomes. The board heard that automotive student Ryan Wilson, electrical student James Vannevar (an apprentice with ABC Electric), and culinary student Emma (a second‑year student currently working at Nothing Bundt Cakes) have accessed early credentialing, equipment support and job placement through the program. Administrators emphasized weekly coaching, grade checks and employability‑skills training as program components designed to promote debt‑free post‑secondary paths.
Board members welcomed the student participation and encouraged continued student input when program topics arise in future meetings. No board action was required on the presentation.
