The Treynor Community School District Board of Education on May 12 approved several expenditures and agreements, including the purchase of a 2025 Thomas Bus EFX for $164,000 and a bid to renovate two elementary bathrooms for $137,694.
Board members voted unanimously to authorize the bus purchase from Truck Center and to accept the All Purpose Construction bid to renovate the restrooms at the end of the preschool and kindergarten hallway. The board also approved a $3,500 agreement with Martin Yarbarough and Associates for vulnerability management technology services for the 2025–26 school year and accepted a memorandum of understanding with IWCC for the 2025–26 school year; both motions passed on unanimous votes.
Following a closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(a) to review confidential open-enrollment records, the board approved two open-enrollment applications (referred to in the record as Student A and Student B). The motion to approve those applications was made by Mr. Dreyer and seconded by Ms. Olson; the vote was recorded as three ayes and two nays and the motion carried.
Motion and voting details recorded in the meeting minutes include: the agenda approval (motion by Mr. Stogdill, seconded by Mr. Christensen) and consent-agenda approval (motion by Mr. Dreyer, seconded by Mr. Christensen), both carried by unanimous vote. Several other routine items on the consent agenda were approved, including minutes, bills, activity and nutrition reports, financial statements, and personnel items (a resignation of a bus driver, Phil Waggoner, and a hire recommendation for Chyle Thomas as junior-high football staff).
Superintendent-level administrative items discussed but not acted on at this meeting included a draft board member handbook and an estimated property insurance increase of about $44,000. The board set its next regular meeting for June 9, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school flex room and adjourned at 8:36 p.m.
