Plan Commission schedules Aug. 11 public hearing to review UDO changes tied to state housing law

The Auburn Plan Commission voted July 14 to schedule a public hearing for Aug. 11 to review proposed updates to the city’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and zoning regulations intended to increase housing development, as required by Indiana Code 36-7-4.3 and the House Enrollment Act.
Staff told the commission that the request to schedule the public hearing is a state-mandated step and that the process must be completed by late 2026. The chair said the requirement is new this year and that the hearing is intended to give the public an opportunity to review proposed UDO changes and raise concerns.
A commissioner moved to approve scheduling the public hearing and the commission approved the motion by voice vote.
The Aug. 11 hearing will be the commission’s opportunity to review specific zoning and land development rule proposals intended to facilitate housing growth; staff said materials will be posted in advance so the public can review changes.
