Gunnison to seek new operator for Taylor Mountain Park after Campfire Ranch dissolution

Gunnison — Parks and Recreation Director Vollendorf told the Gunnison City Council on July 7, 2026, that Campfire Ranch Productions, LLC — the private partner operating Taylor Mountain Park under a five-year contract in effect through Dec. 31, 2028 — dissolved last month.
Staff said they will continue to keep the campground clean, honor existing reservations through the remainder of the season and make any open spots available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Council asked questions about current operations; Director Vollendorf answered them. Councilor Schwartz moved and Councilor Zahradka seconded a motion authorizing staff to develop a request for proposals (RFP) for operation of the park for the 2027 season, and the motion carried unanimously.
The authorization directs staff to draft procurement materials for Council consideration; staff will return with a recommended procurement timeline and operator criteria.
