Gunnison — On July 7, 2026, the Gunnison City Council adopted Ordinance No. 5, Series 2026, amending Chapter 5.30 (Nuisances), Section 5.30.20 of the Gunnison Municipal Code. The amendments retain current noise limits while adding clearer exemptions for specific locations, venues and longstanding community events that are tied to demonstrated community benefit.
City staff described the intent to balance residents’ quiet enjoyment with economic activity and community traditions. Councilors asked questions about enforcement and implementation; staff said the changes will be treated as a pilot program and reassessed within six months, with community engagement planned before any permanent adoption. Councilor Ahonen introduced the ordinance on second reading and the Council adopted it on unanimous roll call vote.
The ordinance amendment takes effect according to municipal code procedures; staff will schedule community engagement and report back to Council as directed.
