Committee orders due diligence on Pinegrove Plantation tract after executive session

The Beaufort County Green Space Advisory Committee moved on July 17 to perform legal due diligence on the Pinegrove Plantation tract and to ask the landowner to consider recharacterizing its application for preservation or farmland protection.
Chair Mike McShane told the committee that new information about litigation status required legal counsel, and the committee went into executive session for that purpose. After returning to open session, State Senator Tom Davis moved “that the due diligence on a lawsuit and in regard to the amended application that it be done in time for consideration by this committee at a September 10 meeting.” The motion, which included encouraging the owner to work with staff to reframe the application toward preservation or farmland, was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Davis said the motion was meant to clarify legal exposure and to give the owner options beyond a passive park designation. The committee recorded no further formal action at the meeting; staff was directed to report back with the requested legal summary and any recommended recharacterization in time for the Sept. 10 meeting.
