Stamping Ground officials move to pursue ABC license for planned grocery store, review draft ordinance

The Stamping Ground City Commission agreed to pursue an Alcoholic Beverage Control license for the family planning to open the former grocery store and reviewed a draft ordinance that could formalize local ABC rules.
Attorney Zach Osborne told commissioners he would follow up with the county ABC administrator to move the Patel family’s application forward and to obtain data on ABC-related police runs within the city. The commission also received a draft ABC ordinance from Osborne and was asked to return feedback promptly so the commission could consider a first reading at the next meeting.
Mayor Jennifer Jones and commissioners debated how the ABC administrator should be paid. Mayor Jones moved and Commissioner Ken Koger seconded a motion to classify the ABC administrator as a W-2 employee; the minutes record the motion and a vote as "Vote 4-0P." The minutes do not provide individual roll-call votes.
City clerks will coordinate any paperwork required for the new license. The Patel family stated they are close to opening and listed the items the store will offer; Attorney Osborne said the city is ready to move forward pending the county ABC process.
The commission also directed Attorney Osborne to follow up on recordkeeping and on tracking police runs that are ABC-related, which he said would include requesting county run counts that fall inside the city limits.
The commission did not take final ordinance action at the Feb. 12 meeting; Osborne requested written feedback and suggested a first reading at the next meeting if commissioners supply comments.
