City Attorney Josh Nielsen told the commission that earlier this year the town had removed certain sections from the draft ordinance, including references to coastal high-hazard areas, because the town is not in a coastal zone. "FEMA came back and said that we have to have all the sections in it or else we wouldnt qualify for any help," he said. Nielsen recommended adopting the full set of sections as drafted to preserve eligibility.
The commission opened and closed the public hearing with no public comment and voted unanimously among present members to recommend the ordinance as drafted to the Town Council.
What happens next: The commission forwarded its recommendation to the Town Council for formal adoption; no changes were requested by commissioners at the meeting.
