Rural Retreat council reads resolutions honoring local high school bands

The Rural Retreat Town Council read two resolutions during its May 12 meeting recognizing local high school concert bands for recent competitive successes. The mayor read a resolution honoring the Ritter Creek/Rivertree High School concert band for achieving Virginia honor band status and superior concert assessment ratings during the 2024–25 season, and a second resolution commending Brookfield/Rotary High School (transcript variants) for superior ratings and festival awards.

The mayor said the resolutions would be incorporated into the May minutes and copies would be presented to the students. Councilman Byers and other council members praised the students and staff for their work. Council member 4 stated, "I know, of course, y'all, you guys have a tremendous support system... especially it's a challenge for a small band, but you guys have proved them wrong," commending the students for their accomplishments.

The council discussed taking photos and arranging a presentation so the resolution could be formally handed to the named students and directors. The read resolutions include references to band director Caden Dyer and named students (transcript contains several spelling variants for some names); the council directed that copies be retained in the official May minutes. The reading was ceremonial and no formal roll-call votes on the resolutions were recorded in the transcript.

The council proceeded to other agenda items after the presentation and photo logistics were handled.
