Cheyenne County commissioners approve routine motions; extend sludge moratorium

The Cheyenne County Board of Commissioners met July 10 and approved a slate of routine motions, including adopting the amended agenda and approving the June 29, 2026 minutes. Commissioner Ronald Smith called the meeting to order; Commissioners RJ Jolly and Rick Pelton voted to approve procedural items.
The board approved a purchase of a Canon printer and maintenance plan for the assessor's office from Gobin's Inc. in Lamar after County Assessor Lacey Welsh presented the State's 2026 Annual Valuation Report and three printer quotes. Welsh said the valuation numbers are not yet final because companies may still appeal their valuations.
Several other formal actions passed: the board allowed a rope to be hung for a Celebrity Pig Show contestant with conditions including a notarized liability waiver, a Board inspection before use, and immediate removal after the event; the subdivision exemption application for Alice Akers was approved; and the board granted a construction permit for Rebeltec Communications to install utilities in the public right-of-way.
On a regulatory item, the board extended the county's domestic sludge regulation moratorium until the next annual reorganization. Commissioners discussed the pending expiration of the moratorium and voted to continue it temporarily.
The meeting concluded with commissioners reviewing expense vouchers and correspondence and adjourning at 12:48 p.m.
