Perryville staff report delays to Chloe Street sinkhole repairs, updates on trails and housing projects

Public Works Director Layton reported a delay on Chloe Street sinkhole repairs after concrete test cylinders failed; the city also reported progress on shared-use path projects, utilities work, Ranken Apartments and a planned November roundabout start. Public Works Director Layton told the Board of Aldermen on June 16 that repairs to a sinkhole near Chloe Street have been delayed after test cylinders failed a break test; staff repoured the upper box pad, set the forms and notified surrounding residents of the delay. "The concrete cylinders did not pass the break test which has caused delays," Layton said.
City Engineer Baer provided project updates: the contractor has poured the south end of the Vincentian Way shared-use path (MoDOT TAP 5000) and will next pour the crosswalk and retaining walls; Miget Park’s contractor plans a concrete pour later in the week for a 10-foot-wide trail; work on Edgemont Boulevard shared-use path and Vincentian Way Phase II is pending scheduling and weather; Delaney Street utility improvements are scheduled to start pending timelines; the PCJJC sidewalk trail project is pending final MoDOT inspection; and Ranken Apartments have laid footings and are installing utilities. Baer told the board the Alma Avenue/Route 51 roundabout project is scheduled to begin in November 2026.
City Administrator Brent Buerck reported several community items: the Southeast Missouri economic report is available; FEMA has recommended PCSD #32 High School be declared a total loss — which staff said increases funding available to rebuild but requires the school district to pass its reduced tax levy and spend money before requesting reimbursement; and staff decided not to add an intrusion alarm system at the Perry Park Center pool after learning there were no insurance savings. Buerck also listed upcoming events and milestones: Dr. Carolyn Anderson's Reset Tour on June 26, the Fire Department banquet on June 28, the city's July 2 fireworks and 250th parade, the Don Welge Memorial Bridge grand opening July 11, an Americans for Prosperity event July 14, and the Montenot Meadows ribbon-cutting July 24 for a workforce housing development with 40 units and a 20-person daycare.
Police Chief Miller reported ongoing work to fill positions through promotions and new hires. The board thanked Code Enforcement Officer Rhoden for handling neighborhood complaints in Ward 2.
The board authorized and completed a closed session for personnel and contractual matters and reconvened to regular session before adjourning.
