The Utica City Council on July 14 authorized the mayor to sign a purchase agreement for the Chapeton Street Annex, described in council materials as the former packing‑plant parcel.
Mayor Mary Calandrino told the council the offer was at the listed purchase price and that the purchaser agreed to carve out a five‑acre tract that the city could reacquire within 10 years for $100,000. Calandrino said the purchaser addressed the city’s concerns and asked the council to authorize her to sign the purchase agreement.
City Attorney Miss McGrail confirmed the agreement had been reviewed extensively by the city attorney’s office. Councilmembers moved and seconded the authorization; the motion carried by roll‑call vote.
What the record shows: The council approved authorization to execute the purchase agreement for the Chapeton Street Annex and accepted the proposed 5‑acre reacquisition carve‑out and the 10‑year reacquisition term at a stated reacquisition price of $100,000. The agreement was described as reviewed by city legal counsel but no purchaser name or full purchase price was read into the record at the meeting.
