Lee County board accepts May financial report; district cites timing of reimbursement grants

The Lee County Board of Education voted 4–0 July 13 to accept the May 2026 financial report after Superintendent Dr. Truett explained that some accounts show temporary negative balances because the district pays grant-funded expenses up front and is later reimbursed by the state or federal agencies.
Dr. Truett told the board that “some of the grants are reimbursement grants. So we pay that expense upfront and then we apply to the state and then they reimburse that grant.” She said reimbursements can come from state, federal or other sources and that timing drives the negative balances the board saw on the report.
At the meeting Dr. Truett also reported the district’s SPOS collections for June totaled $498,162.71 and described maintenance work preparing buildings for the coming school year, including corrective and preventative orders and deep classroom cleaning. She said maintenance completion rates are running in the 80–90% range as crews focus on filters and floors.
The board moved and seconded acceptance of the financial report and voted unanimously to approve it. No further financial actions were taken at the meeting.
