DPS opens conference proposals, one‑pager feedback window and regional meeting registrations

Department of Public Safety staff announced the 2024 statewide conference will be held Nov. 17–18 at the Marriott Crabtree in Raleigh, opened calls for breakout session proposals and sponsors, and encouraged advisory board members to share opportunities with their networks. Staff noted a Department of Health and Human Services injury and violence prevention branch is already confirmed as a sponsor.
Desiree previewed two near‑final one‑pagers intended for practitioners: a public health approach to community violence and a risk and protective factors overview that maps factors to social‑ecological levels and lists data sources and evaluation tips. A third one‑pager about how the office defines ecosystems is in development. Staff set a two‑week feedback window and asked members to return comments by June 3 so the documents can be published.
Regional community violence prevention meetings were announced: the middle region meeting in Greensboro next week (capacity reached for the Bridal region), West region on June 30 in Charlotte in partnership with Mecklenburg County Office of Violence Prevention, and East region on July 15 in Fayetteville. Staff said West and East registration remain open until June 5 and that in‑region events will be hosted free of charge due to partnerships.
Staff also solicited suggestions for June 24 webinar topics and speakers across four candidate themes (community mobilization/advocacy; community responses after violence; faith‑based roles; utilizing public data sources) and encouraged members to suggest speakers via chat or follow‑up email.
Members were reminded the July advisory meeting has been moved to August 26 to avoid a scheduling conflict with the East region meeting and that registration and sponsorship links would be shared in a follow‑up email.
