Oldmans Committee introduces ordinance to limit soliciting hours, creates 'Do Not Solicit' registry

The Oldmans Township Committee introduced Ordinance 2026-10 on June 10, which would amend Chapter 129 of the township code governing peddling and soliciting. The ordinance would permit canvassing, hawking, peddling and soliciting Monday through Saturday between 12:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., or until dusk if earlier; it would bar solicitation on Sundays and legal holidays and would establish a Municipal Clerk-maintained "Do Not Solicit" registry for residents who wish to prohibit solicitation at their homes.
Committee members explained that enforcement of violations would be handled through Municipal Court with penalties consistent with the ordinance language. Administration said the change was prompted by resident complaints about soliciting activities. Motion to introduce the ordinance was made by Committeeman Brian Porch and seconded by Committeeman John Pomponi; roll call for introduction was unanimous. The public hearing is scheduled for the Committee’s next regular meeting on July 8, 2026.
If adopted after the public hearing, the Municipal Clerk would maintain the registry and Municipal Court would handle alleged violations under the ordinance.
