West Point Public Schools board adopts 6% increase to base-growth percentage; schedules budget and tax hearings

The West Point Public Schools Board of Education on Aug. 11 adopted a resolution to increase the district's base growth percentage used to calculate its property tax request authority by 6% and set dates for the district's budget and final tax-request hearings.
The unanimous vote followed routine business. Board President Steve Blocher called the meeting to order and the board approved the agenda and consent items before taking up policy and budget actions. Herb Hasenkamp moved to adopt the base-growth resolution and Eric Brockmann seconded; the motion carried with all six board members recorded as "Yea." The board also moved, without dissent, to revise Policy 6005 (Academic Credits and Graduation) as presented.
Board members set the district budget hearing for Sept. 3, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. and the hearing to set the final tax request for Sept. 3, 2025 at 6:40 p.m.; both hearings will be held in the West Point Public Schools media center. Steve Hughes made the motion to set the budget hearing; Holly Hunke moved to set the tax-request hearing. Both motions were seconded and approved unanimously.
