Zeeland’s Common Council on July 6 approved several procurement actions included in the FY2027 budget: a Clean Water Plant gate and fence installation, a concrete improvements contract focused on school-route safety, and a plow-truck purchase.
Council awarded the Clean Water Plant gate and fence installation to Straight Line Fence for $26,164 and established a project budget of $30,000; funding will come from the Clean Water Plant Repair and Replacement Fund. Staff described the work as a new black-coated galvanized cantilever slide gate, approximately 50 linear feet of chain-link fencing, a new gate operator, integration with the existing security control system, vehicle detection loops, testing and training.
For sidewalk, curb, gutter and ADA ramp work aimed at school-route safety, the council awarded the FY2027 concrete contract to Brown Concrete for $30,055 with a project budget of $35,000; staff said the work must be completed by Aug. 21, 2026, with restoration by Sept. 4, 2026.
The council also approved purchasing a 2027 Freightliner M2106 cab and chassis from Freightliner of Grand Rapids for $106,189 through Sourcewell Contract 032824 DIA and a dump box through the MiDEAL cooperative from Truck and Trailer Specialties for $79,724, for a combined total of $185,913 — $29,087 under the FY2027 budgeted $215,000 for fleet replacement.
All procurement motions passed unanimously (Perkins absent). Staff said fleet consistency with Freightliner models provides maintenance and operational benefits.
