Council vacates portion of North Division Street at Mead Johnson’s request

The Zeeland Common Council on July 6 adopted a resolution vacating a portion of North Division Street north of Main Avenue at the request of Mead Johnson & Company, LLC.
Community Development Director Tim Maday told the council Mead Johnson acquired property around the dead-end segment and sought the vacation as part of a broader facility modernization plan. Staff said the segment does not serve through traffic, Mead Johnson owns the property on all three sides of the described portion, and the vacation would eliminate an existing access point to East Main Avenue and consolidate site access for redevelopment.
Council previously reviewed the Planning Commission's recommendation and related materials on June 1 and held a public hearing before taking final action. The council voted to adopt the resolution and authorized the mayor and city clerk to execute documents necessary to complete the vacation. No traffic concerns were reported in staff materials.
