The Zeeland Board of Public Works on June 9 awarded the 2026 Community Grant of $25,000 to the City of Zeeland for its Community Playground Relocation and Reuse Project.
Commissioners said all applicants were deserving and chose the City’s proposal to salvage and repurpose playground equipment from the existing Bethel Christian Reformed Church site and reinstall it on a new property. Commissioner Cooney moved and Commissioner Walters seconded the award; the motion passed unanimously.
Staff also presented an informational request from The Bridge Youth Center. Executive Director Jed Mulder notified staff that organizational priorities have impeded The Bridge’s ability to implement its Bridging Generations project in FY2026 and requested a one‑year deferral of the $7,500 award. Staff reviewed the request and determined the funds can be deferred into the FY2027 budget without fiscal impact; staff recommended approving the deferral provided the Board had no objection. The Board did not object to staff’s recommendation.
Staff thanked community partners and shared thank‑you notes from the City regarding Music on Main sponsorship and from Ottawa Area ISD for BPW’s support of Fun Day programming.
