Zeeland BPW awards three‑year safety training contract to HSI, cites $18,713 projected savings

The Zeeland Board of Public Works voted June 9 to transition its employee safety and compliance software to HSI Workplace Compliance Solutions under a three‑year agreement.
ACM/Finance Director Plockmeyer told commissioners that BPW has used GPiLEARN+ for several years and that HSI offers a broader set of EHS tools, including incident management tracking, Safety Data Sheet management and an interactive learning platform. The HSI proposal includes a migration of legacy data and single sign‑on; staff noted optional expanded education modules are available but not included in the base price.
Staff presented a three‑year cost of $39,876.90 (Year 1 $14,762.30; Years 2 and 3 at $12,557.30 each) and compared it to a recent GPiLEARN+ proposal of $58,590, saying the HSI option represents an estimated $18,713 savings over three years. The Board authorized the contract on a motion by Commissioner Walters, seconded by Commissioner Cooney; the motion carried unanimously. BPW and the City’s Clean Water Department will allocate costs based on employee registration for the program and cover proportional shares in their O&M budgets.
Staff said the HSI platform will provide expanded reporting and compliance management tools to support the BPW’s safety program.
