The Zeeland Board of Public Works voted June 9 to hire Dixon Engineering to perform three remotely operated vehicle tank inspections as part of the FY2027 maintenance plan.
Water Operations Manager Postma told the Board that BPW schedules tank inspections approximately every five years and proposed one ROV inspection at the 80th St. tank (to prepare for repainting in spring/fall 2027), plus inspections at the Carlton Tank and the north 1.25MG reservoir at the Washington Pump Station. Postma listed estimated inspection costs of $4,100 for 80th St., $4,100 for Carlton and $4,300 for the north 1.25MG tank. The combined Dixon Engineering quote of $12,500 met specifications and was recommended by staff.
On a motion by Commissioner Query, seconded by Commissioner Cooney, the Board approved Dixon Engineering’s inspection services for a total amount of $12,500. The motion carried unanimously.
Board materials indicate typical inspection pricing ranges between $5,000 and $5,500 per tank when performed separately; conducting the three inspections together delivered cost savings according to staff.
