The Zeeland Board of Public Works on June 9 approved April 2026 cash disbursements and the regular monthly transfers, and heard a report on recent PFAS settlement proceeds.
ACM/Finance Director Plockmeyer told the Board that cash and investments as of April 30, 2026, totaled $17,019,119 for Electric and $12,715,357 for Water. The Board approved transfers that move $787,545 from Electric and $291,800 from Water Receiving accounts into Plant Improvements and Contingencies; a monthly operating transfer of $57,645 from Electric to the General Fund was also approved. The transfers were recommended as part of routine month‑end cash management and carried on a motion by Commissioner Cooney, seconded by Commissioner Query; the Board voted unanimously to approve the package.
Plockmeyer also reported that the BPW received a PFAS settlement payment of $334,681.15 this past week, which staff transferred to the Michigan Professional Insurance Authority (MPIA). He said total PFAS receipts to date are $2,035,016.28 and that all funds received so far have been transferred to the MPIA. The Board was told the MPIA will continue to handle related insurance and liability matters; staff flagged that the MPIA has engaged outside legal counsel to evaluate coverage mechanics.
Plockmeyer reviewed customer account metrics for March and April 2026, noting roughly 8,000 active accounts and overdue/disconnect notices in the low 200s. He also reported that the MPIA renewal yielded a projected premium reduction of $135,159 due to market conditions.
The Board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for July 14, 2026; the joint City Council & BPW IRP final report presentation is set for July 11 at the Howard Miller Community Center.
