West Point Public Schools board hears updates on Special Education, enrollment and fall activities

Administrators reported Project Para para-educator onboarding, Special Education Indicator 11 submission, addition of Adaptive PE, assessment updates, and enrollment counts (Elementary 321, Middle 202, High 221); Homecoming and activity schedules were announced.
At the Sept. 8 board meeting, West Point Public Schools administrators presented routine operational and program updates, including staffing, special education changes, assessments and activity scheduling.
Administrators reported that Project Para is underway for newly hired para-educators and that Special Education Indicator 11 reports have been completed and submitted. Adaptive physical education has been added to the district’s special education program, the minutes state.
Assessment and instructional notes included fall MAPS and DIBELS updates presented by the elementary and middle school principals, and the district reported that West Point Elementary was selected as a Model Professional Learning Community (PLC). The WPPS PLC team is scheduled to present at the NEMTSS summit in October.
Enrollment and activities: Current enrollment figures were reported as 321 elementary students, 202 middle school students and 221 high school students. The minutes list completed bus evacuation drills required under Rule 91, an East Husker Conference kickoff in West Point on Aug. 20, and multiple activity and parent-night schedules. Homecoming week is scheduled Oct. 6–10, and the Oct. 10 football game has been moved to a 6:00 p.m. start.
Superintendent Weddle added that staff have finished required annual trainings, district staff attended recruitment visits to Wayne State and the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), and the board retreat is scheduled for Sept. 17 at Woodcliff Restaurant.
The board took no formal action on these reports; they were provided for information and planning purposes.
