Clifton Council approves clerk training, attorney payment and small repairs; schedules FY2023 budget work sessions

The Clifton Town Council approved several routine expenditures and scheduling decisions during its electronic March 1, 2022 meeting.
Councilmember Steve Effros moved to authorize up to $2,000 for Town Clerk Amanda Christman to attend zoning administration training and certification; Councilmember Alexia Poe seconded, and the motion passed by roll call with Mayor Bill Hollaway and all council members voting Aye. Council records list the training cost breakdown and a projected total of $1,709 for training, exams, membership, lodging, mileage and materials.
Mayor Bill Hollaway moved to approve payment of $800 for the January–February 2022 invoice from the Town Attorney; Councilmember Poe seconded, and the motion was approved by roll call (all six members voted Aye).
The Council scheduled FY2023 budget work sessions to be held electronically via Zoom on April 7, April 14 and April 19 at 7 p.m., after a motion by Councilmember Effros and second by Vice Mayor Regan McDonald; the motion passed by poll, 6-0. The Clerk was directed to distribute the agenda to the community within the next week.
On town property maintenance, Mayor Hollaway moved to approve up to $2,000 to construct a fence backing up to the lot on Chestnut Street adjacent to the town’s newly acquired parkland; Councilmember Poe seconded and the motion passed by roll call (all Aye). Vice Mayor McDonald said the fence design should be reviewed by the Architectural Review Board (ARB) prior to installation and suggested considering a gate for the neighboring property owner.
Vice Mayor McDonald also moved to add discussion and approve up to $1,200 to shore up structural support under the Pink House’s main floor; Councilmember Steve Effros seconded and the motion passed by roll call (all Aye).
The Council discussed maintenance of the floodplain parking area, noting that pervious pavers graded with soil have degraded into mud that obscures parking spaces, including a potential ADA-accessible spot. Vice Mayor McDonald will gather price quotes and report back to the Council.
