The consultant described the scheme as a two‑way bikeway within the pavement section that could later be elevated toward a curb level; the design would narrow the vehicle travel width in places and repurpose the center turn lane to provide bike buffers. "We took out the center turn lane, gave that space to bike buffers and parkway," the presenter said, explaining tradeoffs between parking, parkway width and vehicle lane width.
Members raised concerns about transitions where northbound bikes must cross to the opposite side of the street, potential conflict points at driveways and how bikeways would interact with bus staging and loading. A committee member asked whether cyclists could trigger pedestrian crossings without using push‑buttons; staff recommended simulating 24‑hour signal operations and favoring more crosswalk green time during school peak hours.
Speed humps were proposed on Isabelle and on 6th between Isabelle and Lehi to address speeding and e‑bike speeds; staff said designs use speed‑hump profiles that can be crossed by cyclists. The design team also discussed a possible through‑traffic diverter to reduce cut‑through speeding by forcing one‑way loops on certain blocks, while maintaining bus movements.
Next steps: staff will refine drawings, run signal timing simulations, and return with more detailed plans and neighborhood outreach materials; no action or vote was taken at the meeting.
