Rumford manager reports sidewalks, field repairs, bridge hearing and progress on wind-energy work

Town Manager George O'Keefe reported at the May 21 meeting that the town has coordinated Memorial Day parade arrangements with Mexico Town Manager Jack Gaudet and several town employees, and that crews are replacing and rehabilitating multiple sidewalks and three athletic fields.
O'Keefe said the town has requested an in-person Maine Department of Transportation public hearing on the High Bridge project; he said the board and staff are unsure of the project's full impact but anticipate it could be "significant." O'Keefe also said a wind energy project is "well under way" and that transit work will be coming through town, calling those items recurring themes for the summer.
Public-works updates from Department head Roberts described recent demolition of the 128 Penobscot building (site was seeded), and paving work completed on Beliveau, Oak and Walnut streets. Roberts said Hosmer Lane has received one coat so far, Dirigo will perform curbing beginning June 1, and Spencer Paving is scheduled to finish paving by June 15. Ditch work on Mountain View Annex was completed and the municipal street sweeper was repaired; Roberts thanked CPN Construction for work on the bridge and related site prep.
The board did not take additional formal action on the High Bridge or the wind-energy project at the May 21 meeting; O'Keefe’s report was informational and flagged both items for staff and future meeting agendas.
