Clifton council approves $100,000 local commitment for Streetscape TA grant application

The Clifton Town Council on Sept. 7 approved a resolution supporting the town’s application for additional Transportation Alternatives (TA) funding and committed $100,000 as its 20% cost share.
Mayor Bill Hollaway moved to approve the resolution and the motion passed by roll-call vote with all councilmembers voting aye. Council asked the Special Projects Committee to prepare a comprehensive Streetscape report for the October meeting that outlines the current plan, estimated total cost, steps needed before construction, and any state or federal deadlines for spending grant funds.
Councilmember Lynn Screen said the request for a fuller project update is intended to ensure transparency about scope and timing before the town obligates matching funds. The resolution was presented by the Streetscape Planning Committee and framed as a necessary step to secure discretionary state funding for Phase 2 of the town’s streetscape efforts.
The Town’s financials included in the meeting packet show a Capital Improvements Fund (CIF) balance and a list of Streetscape line items; Councilmembers emphasized they want the October report to reconcile project design, estimated construction costs and how the $100,000 commitment fits into the CIF and overall cash flow.
The council’s action is a commitment to pursue the TA application; any final appropriation for construction will depend on subsequent Council review of detailed cost estimates and timing.
