Miss Santor, presenting the amendments, said the district received a state adjustment of $93,477 from the Department of Public Instruction and recorded a capital outlay increase of $671,252 tied to the expected receipt of four new buses from DPI. Santor also said the district added $179,400 to fund balance for miscellaneous items including a Martin County High School band equipment grant and an opioid grant the district had received.
The drawdown request covers the initial quarterly payments for the new high school; Santor said the district intends to submit subsequent quarterly drawdowns as the construction schedule advances. The board moved, seconded and approved the motion by voice vote.
During discussion, a board member asked whether geothermal heating was being considered or whether geothermal exploration was limited to site feasibility. Dr. White said the district is evaluating geothermal as a heating option, that several soil and geothermal studies remain pending, and that the district expects study results in about two weeks and will provide a detailed update to the board in April.
The budget amendments follow routine DPI adjustments and specific capital needs tied to buses and grants, Santor said. The board’s vote to approve the amendments and the drawdown was recorded as carried by voice vote.
What happens next: staff said they will report back in April with geothermal study findings and ongoing updates on the construction drawdown schedule.
