Mebane officials told viewers the city has agreed to purchase two adjoining lots off Smith Road from William E. Lewis for $30,000, paying $15,000 this fiscal year and $15,000 the next. Mayor Pro Tem Tim Bradley said the parcel is adjacent to the city’s water resource recovery facility; city staff noted the tax value and said due diligence and surveying remain before final conveyance, with due‑diligence costs estimated around $5,000.
Bradley said the council voted unanimously to approve the purchase, calling it a good fit for future expansion of the facility. “William E. Lewis offered to settle two lots for $30,000, which we paid $15 this year and $15 next year,” Bradley said.
Officials also listed spring community events. The downtown Mebane Farmers Market returns Saturday, April 4 and will run Saturdays through November from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The Mebane BPAC will host a community bike ride at 10 a.m. April 4 at Pocket Park beside Lou’s Bakery to kick off the market season.
The 38th annual Mebane Dogwood Festival is scheduled for April 24–25 and will include a Friday golf tournament, a 5K and a children’s Dogwood dash, carnival rides, a movie night and a car show moved to Friday. City staff encouraged carpooling because parking will be limited.
The Healthy Aging Academy, presented with the Mebane Woman’s Club, will offer a free joint‑health class on Monday, April 13 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Mebane Arts and Community Center, led by orthopedic surgeon Samantha Singer; registration is available through the city’s recreation and parks CivicRec page.
City staff reminded residents that city offices will be closed Friday, April 3 for Good Friday and invited the public to attend the regular council meeting on the first Monday of each month.
